HIRVEGAAR MAHULI………………………………………………………… (17/07/2011)

The fact that HYBRID gets associated with something new prior to every trek has now become a sort of habit. After a whole lot of virtual publicity before the Karnala trek, it was time for some hardcore publicity. An advertisement of the Mahuli trek, 3 days before in ‘MidDay’ just provided the right impetus to increase our excitement for the trek. As expected the incessant rains in July caused little delay in our schedule. A two and half hour journey led u to the beautiful village of Mahuli, with lush greenery spread all around and blue mountains with misty clouds in the background. A rather late staple breakfast of trekkers ( kandepohe and cutting chai) was finished and the trek was started without wasting any time.

The events in the beginning itself confirmed that it was going to be one happening trek. A group loosing their path, few getting slipped in the stream, pants getting torned, shoe soles coming off and of course fresher’s feeling the heat. Wooow we had it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Mahuli is not an easy trek but at the same time it does not have any risky patches as such. On another day we would have completed the trek in four stages taking proper halts. But here since we were running against the time, we had cut down on our halts and constantly push our fellow trekkers. In Mahuli, the excitement reaches its highest point during its final stages where the atmosphere grips us with its green valleys, white clouds, blowing winds and constant rainfalls. It has to be experienced to believe it.

On the top, we had our snack break and photo shoot of the entire group in the middle of that cold and chilling atmosphere. Here, we also decided to pay homage to all those victims who lost their lives in the MUMBAI BLAST which happened just a few days back by observing a 2 minute silence. Thereafter, the descend was a very quick one, with most trekkers like us running their way through the rocks. In the stream below, we had the best relaxing time of the day. It made us forget our ages and get back to those old childhood days.

And finally, we had our lunch late in the evening, but indeed a satisfying one. The return journey was also a safe and sound one as usual. What was surprising to see, was the kind of bonding that everyone shared at the end of the day, in spite of being a mixed crowd.

In the end, we would like to thank ‘Krushna Mama’, for his delicious home food and his lovable hospitality. Also need to mention here is an important man, ‘Prashant Nimkar’ of ‘Ujwal travels’ who has been our backbone and has given his buses for all our treks.

‘HYBRID TREKKERS’ also appreciates the courage of two budding trekkers -Sarvesh Lohar and Shantanu Lohar. The kind of ability and trekking sense shown by both of them at such a tender age was worth admiring. HATS OFF.

Finally it was a special day for me and there could not have been a better way to celebrate your birthday than going for a trek.

HAPPY TREKKING

Pravasvarnan Karnala Killyache ………………….… (26-06-2011)

<!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Cool showers of monsoon and a warm up trek to Karnala on 26th June 2011 was an ideal beginning to this trekking season. Add to that a whole lot of virtual publicity and a thunderous response was like an icing on the cake for all of us. However, now began the real job and a responsibility of making another trek one of the most memorable one for all of its participants. As usual everyone assembled at Ruia triangle early in the morning. With a huge crowd to handle and two buses in the offering, we had to split ourselves into twos, each controlling one bus. A smooth ride across the lush green Panvel, landed us to Yousuf Meherally canteen were we first had our breakfast.

The break fast was followed by a quick journey towards the entrance of ‘Karnala Bird Sanctuary’. Mean while we were joined by fellow trekkers who came directly to the destined place on their bikes. A head count of the trekkers and general instructions regarding trekking were followed by a two hour rigorous and intense climb towards the pinnacle. The journey included all the dramas associated with trekking. The fresher’s feeling the heat in first half hour itself, constant encouragement to reduce the number of halts and of course a lot of photography on the way.

A slight shower of rain just added to the beauty of the forest giving that much needed coolness. However, that made the path more slippery and trekkers getting slipped regularly just became the norm. Reaching on top of the Karnala fort, the lush greenery was seen to be believed and the rapid flow of fresh air made everyone forget their painfull legs. A much needed snack interval and listening to the sound of silence made everyone stay on top for about an hour. What followed was an extended photography session with the Karnala pinnacle standing firm in the background. Surely all the fun got immortalized at that moment!!!!!.

The descend began right after the photo session along the same path. Overcoming the tricky hurdles and again going through the same series of slippery patches, all of us heaved a sigh of relief on reaching the base. A delightful heavy lunch was on everyone’s mind while descending down and I think no one was disappointed at all. A return journey to Ruia College just gave a chance to relax those tired legs and look back at all the memories gathered throughout the day.

In the end I would like to thank some key members – Shriyans Kanvinde, Saurabh Rane (Wild Explorers) and Tejas Thakur, without whom it would have been really very difficult for us to organize the trek for such a huge crowd. Looking forward for such support ahead in future also. Thank You.

All I can say now, after the trek is that “Yeh to sirf trailer tha ………..picture abhi baki hain mere dost”.

HAPPY TREKKING
