Cool showers of monsoon and a warm up trek to Karnala on 26th June 2011 was an ideal beginning to this trekking season. Add to that a whole lot of virtual publicity and a thunderous response was like an icing on the cake for all of us. However, now began the real job and a responsibility of making another trek one of the most memorable one for all of its participants. As usual everyone assembled at Ruia triangle early in the morning. With a huge crowd to handle and two buses in the offering, we had to split ourselves into twos, each controlling one bus. A smooth ride across the lush green Panvel, landed us to Yousuf Meherally canteen were we first had our breakfast.
The break fast was followed by a quick journey towards the entrance of ‘Karnala Bird Sanctuary’. Mean while we were joined by fellow trekkers who came directly to the destined place on their bikes. A head count of the trekkers and general instructions regarding trekking were followed by a two hour rigorous and intense climb towards the pinnacle. The journey included all the dramas associated with trekking. The fresher’s feeling the heat in first half hour itself, constant encouragement to reduce the number of halts and of course a lot of photography on the way.
A slight shower of rain just added to the beauty of the forest giving that much needed coolness. However, that made the path more slippery and trekkers getting slipped regularly just became the norm. Reaching on top of the Karnala fort, the lush greenery was seen to be believed and the rapid flow of fresh air made everyone forget their painfull legs. A much needed snack interval and listening to the sound of silence made everyone stay on top for about an hour. What followed was an extended photography session with the Karnala pinnacle standing firm in the background. Surely all the fun got immortalized at that moment!!!!!.
The descend began right after the photo session along the same path. Overcoming the tricky hurdles and again going through the same series of slippery patches, all of us heaved a sigh of relief on reaching the base. A delightful heavy lunch was on everyone’s mind while descending down and I think no one was disappointed at all. A return journey to Ruia College just gave a chance to relax those tired legs and look back at all the memories gathered throughout the day.
In the end I would like to thank some key members – Shriyans Kanvinde, Saurabh Rane (Wild Explorers) and Tejas Thakur, without whom it would have been really very difficult for us to organize the trek for such a huge crowd. Looking forward for such support ahead in future also. Thank You.
All I can say now, after the trek is that “Yeh to sirf trailer tha ………..picture abhi baki hain mere dost”.
HAPPY TREKKING
